Safety in Every Detail: Passive Fire NZ Protection for Allevia Hospitals

It’s our mission to lift the standard of fire protection across Aotearoa – one building at a time. So when a job wraps, we take a moment to celebrate. Especially when it’s a building that is going to make a real difference to people’s lives.

That’s exactly the case with the Gilgit Wing, the new surgical theatre at Allevia Hospitals Epsom (formerly Mercy Ascott) – a cutting-edge expansion designed with patient care and safety at its core.

Built by the crew at Leighs Construction Ltd and designed by Klein Architects, this stunning facility includes: 10 modern operating theatres, 17-bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, 6 ICU beds, 6 HDU beds and a 24-room ward designed for recovery and post-op care.

We’re not surgeons, but the meticulous planning that went into this build sure made it feel like we were! Our team installed high-performance passive fire systems to protect patients, staff, and infrastructure, all while working alongside a live hospital environment. No room for error.

When our team shows up, we know exactly why we’re there. We’re there for whanau, to keep families safe, and to lift the standard every time. So it was a privilege to seal the final penetrations and walk away knowing we had some very happy clients, on an epic build with a powerful purpose. Thanks for having us!
