Passive Fire NZ Celebrates Māori Language Week Every Day

At Passive Fire NZ, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is an annual highlight – but for us, it doesn’t stop at just one week. What we love most is how naturally our team weave te reo Māori into both our internal and external communications every day.
One of our core values is Thirst for Learning, and it’s been awesome to see our multicultural staff pick up greetings, sign-offs, and phrases, using them with confidence and pride. In doing so, we celebrate and revitalise one of Aotearoa’s greatest taonga, te reo Māori.
As a 100% Māori and Pasifika-owned business, we also look for authentic ways to uplift Te Ao Māori beyond our own walls. Recently, we were approached by Titahi Ki Tua, the AUT Māori Students’ Association, who were preparing for Te Huinga Tauira in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, a national gathering where Māori student associations from across the motu come together to compete in kapa haka, sports, and cultural activities.
We were proud to sponsor their sports kit and kapa haka performance outfits. A special highlight: the Titahi Ki Tua rōpū took out first place in the kapa haka competition with their soaring vocals and powerful performance.
Among the sports played was Ki o Rahi, a traditional, fast-paced Māori ball game that combines speed, strategy, and storytelling. It’s a reminder of how mātauranga Māori continues to thrive in today’s world, connecting people through play, teamwork, and culture.
We’re excited to continue supporting this inspiring rōpū just around the corner from us in Grafton. Follow their journey via Auckland University of Technology channels. We’ll be sharing more about their mahi in the future.
