11 Feb Reflecting on Foundations This Waitangi
Waitangi Is a Reminder That Nothing Strong Is Built Without Solid Foundations
As we head into Waitangi weekend, it’s a time to reflect on where we’ve come from and the values that continue to shape how we move forward.
The Passive Fire NZ team was lucky enough to spend time as a team recently in Waitangi – and we were able to reflect on this.
Our work is grounded in respect, partnership, and responsibility. These ideas are not abstract. They show up in how we work together, how we approach our projects, and how seriously we take the role we play in protecting people and places across Aotearoa.
There is a whakataukī that captures this whakaaro – “Me hoki whakamuri kia anga whakamua”. To move forward, we must look to the past.
In passive fire protection, foundations matter. Much of our work sits behind the walls. It’s not always seen, but it is critical when it matters most. The same is true of values. When the foundations are right, everything built on top of them is stronger.
As a Māori, Pasifika, and Kiwi owned business, we see this as both a privilege and a responsibility. To honour the past. To work in partnership. And to build safer spaces for communities across Aotearoa, now and into the future. Ngā mihi o te Wiki o Waitangi!
PS: Ending the week on a very happy note, whilst we were away there was also some special news within the team, with Dean Kouka-Smith and his partner Claire getting engaged. A moment of celebration to sit alongside a weekend that is all about connection, commitment, and looking ahead! Congrats guys!
